TRACK 9 - 7Teen
Burger Beatz
7Teen is all about youth. Now let's take that youthful self awareness and add some substance. Let's talk about the shit that's happening in the background that kids try to escape. The shit that people don't like to hear, because it scares them to know that those things are a real part of their world. All the while the song doesn't forget to tell you who it is. When you listen closely to the chorus it sounds like it's trying too hard, and it is. The same way we try to convince ourselves at 17 that what we are saying is what we believe. A little goofy, a little childish, this song is about being young. All parts of it.
I remember making this beat and writing the verse right after making Beauty Queen, but I didn't record it until a year later. I knew what it would be, and I knew what the performance should sound like, but I still didn't have a solid idea for the chorus. Denisia recorded her verse first, and the chorus became a combination of our concepts of youth.
"When I was only 17... bitch,
Asked myself what would Jesus,
Do if he walked in my shoes,
And not whoever he is"
Young. Full of doubt. Always questioning life.
The lyrics page for 7Teen is about that transformation you go through as a teenager. That time in your life when you become the person you will always be.
